More OR fun

While in Bandon we took family pics
Bandon was sooooo windy that half the days we couldn't even go on the beach!

gma brought bubbles you could eat..so the kids are trying to catch them with their mouths

maaa look i caught one!

Byron and Buddy hung out while we climb a lighthouse
climbing a lighthouse (Amber's bro and mom)

One day the rest of us got the stomach bug Mikayla had and just slept, and another day we helped my parents weed their over grown lawn.

OR fun

Unfortunately I didn't bring out the camera until later in the trip (I was too busy trying to keep the children from running away!): First day in OR we arrived late due to plane issues, but then picked up the rental car. We paid for a midsize (yet again too cheap to get something comfy, still $350 for 11 days) but thank you alamo got a free upgrade to a Toyota highlander becuz no midsizes were available...DARN. This is a car we have always wanted to test drive too! So that was great we love the highlander.
First excursion was the OMSI, museum of science and industry...huge and lots of stuff to do but unfortunately we only had 3.5 hrs till we had to leave and Mikayla didn't get to see the cool physics area. We met up with Byron's sister Becca here and then went to her house in Salem to spend the night. We played games after the kids were in bed. The next morning we drove 2.5 hrs to the coast town of Newport, beautiful mountain like tons of pine trees and overhanging trees on the road, even saw a wild wolf cross the road.
In Newport we went to the aquarium there and hatfield marine science center:
They had awesome touch tanks for the kids at both places with starfish, stingrays, sharks, sea anemones, sea urchins, and other fish. They just kept running from one tank to the next. We also got some super yummy fudge for only $3 (They have cheap good fudge almost everywhere in OR). We then met up with Ambers family and went to the nice 2 bedroom beach front Inn. Mikayla woke up in the middle of the night throwing up.
The next morning we went whale watching with our own personal marine biologist! Only 6 seats on the boat so Byron stayed behind with sick Mikayla and Buddy. We found one whale that came so close to the boat that we smelt its awful breath when it spouted! It almost made me puke! it smelled like raw sewage! The whale came within 6-12 feet at one point. We also saw sea lions and seals. Kenzie did not like the boat ride very much. She just wanted to go back cuz it was making her sick. It was quite rocky when we were just sitting in the big waves watching for the whale to spout. The same day as whale watching we went to tide pools (this is a tide pool at extremely low tide, all the brown stuff is slippery seaweed.). The kids saw tons of starfish and sea anemones

Amber's sister Linsey watched buddy while we walked over really slippery rocks to find starfish. Buddy had fun throwing these lava round rocks which made up the beach there.

At the end of that day we drove a few more hours along the coast to the house in Bandon that we stayed at for 1 week. At least the drive was beautiful...along the coastline the whole way.

OR trip

What we learned about our trip to OR:
It had way too much driving! We flew into Portland from SLC, then drove to his sisters in Salem, then drove a few more hrs to the coast. then drove a few more hours on windy roads down the coast, then drove a few more hours to see Byron's family down the coast some more, then back up the coast then back to the airport...BUT it sure was beautiful! Every 3 miles (literally) there was a state park to stop at and hike or explore.
Hitchhiking must be legal in the state becuz we saw a ton of hitchikers
Tons of bikers on 2 lane windy roads with sleeping bags on their backs
you can NOT pump your own gas...I pulled up to fill up with gas, got out and started to pump and a guy comes running over and says let me do that for you..."I can do it my self (too cheap to pay someone to do it), did I acidentaly pull thru full serve?" No he said its a law in OR, I thought he was joking, but he wasn't.
Summer is a great time of year to escape the Souths heat and head to OR where on the coast you have to wear pants a coat most days on the beach!
a 8.5hr (no lay over) flight is way too long to be trapped on a plane with 2 kids (Mikayla went to CA with gma and gpa for 2.5 weeks of fun) I did not find out till we got to our gate that we would not be able to recharge all electronical devices (ds/dvd player) nor stop for food! ahhhh! that was a slow torture oh and I had no book to read!

More Utah

At This is the Place they did leather stamping
Mikayla got to go on a rollercoaster ride with gpa
We all sat and waited for Byron and Mikayla to come back from a steep hike up to the waterfalls! Can you guess which one is Byron's sister? (not a twin)

Summer Family Trip-1st Utah

This past 2.5 weeks to visit family in UT and OR we have determined was NOT a vacation but a family trip. Byron and I both decided a vacation is not when you still have 3 kids to get to bed and feed (and ride 12hrs on a plane/sit in airports with 3 kids all of which who refused to fall asleep even though it was midnight!) but when you have no responsibilities. While in Utah we had a family picnic at Bridal Veil Falls up Provo Canyon

We went on the alpine slide in Park City Kenzie and I had a slow dud of a ride but Byron had a fast tract. Mikayla was finally old enough to go by herself. We visited This Is the Place Center which was actually quite fun for the kids. They had train rides, bead making, candle dipping, petting zoo, pony rides, and indian necklace making. We also had a picinic while there. It was hot but the kids had a great time.

We also went to Lehi indoor/outdoor pool with slides and lots of fountains and swings in the water for the kids to play on but didn't get any pics. Byron and I went to the AF temple, we found some great deals at DI, including a lands end backpack like new for only $3! In our down time we played Wii at Byron's sisters Sarah's and his mom made us awesome meals while were there!
